The northern lights over the Barents Sea

2 to 3 nights
Late September to late March

The aurora is not seen from Moscow but from the Arctic north. Murmansk is the largest city in the world beyond the Arctic Circle, and from there a road of 2 to 2.5 hours leads to Teriberka on the Barents Sea, far from city lights. The season runs from late September to late March, and the lights appear most often between 9 pm and midnight, when the sky is clear and the air frosty.

We arrange a guide who follows the aurora forecast and the cloud cover, a warm car to reach the best spots, and a comfortable lodge to return to after the night's watch.

Good to know

  • The aurora cannot be guaranteed, so we suggest at least two nights
  • Murmansk averages minus 10 to minus 15°C in winter
