Discover Jimbaran and Uluwatu
Jimbaran lies just south of the airport, at the neck of the Bukit peninsula. It is a working fishing village whose boats still go out each morning, and it is known for seafood restaurants on the sand: you choose your fish, prawns or lobster, they are grilled in front of you over coconut husks, and you dine as the sun sets over the bay.
Some of the island's finest resorts line Jimbaran Bay. From our collection, AYANA Resort Bali has its pools and gardens on the cliff, and InterContinental Bali Resort is on the beach. From here Nusa Dua, the airport and the south of the peninsula are all within easy reach.
The land rises as you head south, up to Uluwatu at the island's south-western tip, where Uluwatu Temple stands on the edge of a 70 m cliff above the ocean. The Kecak dance is performed there every evening at sunset, and below the cliffs lie small beaches among the rocks and waves known to experienced surfers.
On these cliffs stands Bulgari Resort Bali, with private-pool villas facing the Indian Ocean, one of the most private addresses on the island. Between Jimbaran and Uluwatu rises the Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue, 121 m high, the tallest in Indonesia.
