The world's largest country, spanning two continents and bridging East and West.

The destination

About Russia

Russia is the largest country in the world, and it spans two continents. What sets it apart is the way it joins East and West. It is a destination of long history and refined arts, with landscapes that run from the shores of the Black Sea to the forests of Siberia, and from modern cities to quiet historic villages.

Most journeys begin in Moscow, around the Kremlin and Red Square, listed together by UNESCO in 1990. Saint Petersburg, founded by Peter the Great in 1703 and the capital until 1918, answers with the Hermitage, the Neva and the canals that earned it the name "Venice of the North". Kazan, on the Volga, is close to half Tatar, and its white Kremlin holds the Kul Sharif Mosque. Sochi runs 145 km along the Black Sea, with the ski slopes of the Caucasus behind it.

Russia has two seasons, and each deserves its own journey. From May to September the cities are green and the evenings long; in June the sky over Saint Petersburg barely darkens. From December to March the country turns white: log cabins in snowy forest, husky sleds in Karelia, skiing in the Caucasus, the northern lights over the Barents Sea, and the warmth of a Russian banya at the end of the day.

Since 11 May 2026, Saudi citizens can visit Russia without a visa for up to 90 days a year. Direct flights from Riyadh take about 6 hours, and Moscow keeps Riyadh's time. We arrange the rest: suites in historic hotels, private Arabic-speaking guides, halal dining, and the practical details a journey to Russia now needs, from cash to staying in touch.

Taste and addresses

Flavours and places to know

Russian cooking is generous and varied, joining local ingredients to classic European recipes: soups and dumplings for the cold months, blini with sour cream and caviar, salads that no New Year table is without. In Kazan, Tatar cooking adds triangular echpochmak pies and honeyed chak-chak, and most restaurants in the centre serve halal meat as standard. Elsewhere, we choose halal kitchens for you, or ask for the classics made with beef or chicken.

Questions

Before you go

Why choose Togather for Russia?
Because we do not sell ordinary packages; each journey is designed for you. Stays in the finest hotels and historic palaces, private touring by car with Arabic-speaking guides, and seasonal journeys such as the northern lights, first class on the Sapsan between Moscow and Saint Petersburg, and the winter festive season in snowy Moscow. We also handle what Russia now requires: services paid in advance, cash, staying in touch, halal dining and prayer times.
When is the best time to visit Russia?
Each season gives a different Russia. May to September is the best time for the great cities and the royal palaces in mild weather, and June and early July bring the White Nights in Saint Petersburg. December to March is the season of snow, cabins and husky sleds; the best skiing weeks in the Caucasus are February and the first half of March. The northern lights are seen in the Arctic north, around Murmansk, from late September to late March, not from Moscow.
Do Saudi citizens need a visa for Russia?
No, at the time of writing. Under the mutual visa waiver between Saudi Arabia and Russia, in force since 11 May 2026, Saudi citizens enter without a visa for tourism, business or visiting family and friends, and may stay up to 90 days in a calendar year, in one stay or several. A visa is still needed for work, study or residence. Your hotel registers your stay with the migration authorities, as Russian law requires, with nothing for you to do. We confirm the rules again before you book.
How long is the flight from Saudi Arabia to Moscow?
About 6 hours direct from Riyadh. Saudia has flown direct to Sheremetyevo since October 2025, and flynas to Vnukovo since August 2025; flynas also flies between Jeddah and Moscow. Schedules change with the season, so we choose the best flight for you when you book.
Is Russia safe for visitors?
Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Kazan and Sochi receive large numbers of visitors, and the usual care of any large city is enough: keep valuables close and travel at night by private car. At the time of writing, Russian airports, Moscow's among them, are sometimes closed for several hours at short notice for airspace safety, and flights are delayed. So we check official travel advice, including Saudi Arabia's, before confirming your journey, keep transfers flexible and suggest a quiet day before your flight home.
Is halal food available in Russia?
Yes. Moscow has more than 30 halal restaurants, and in Kazan most restaurants in the centre serve halal meat as standard; halal certification is issued by the Council of Muftis of Russia. Saint Petersburg has fewer options, most of them around the Cathedral Mosque. Upscale hotels offer choices suited to Muslim guests, and we book restaurants for you in advance and check their kitchens.
What currency is used, and will my cards work?
The official currency is the Russian rouble (RUB). At the time of writing, cards issued outside Russia, Visa and Mastercard included, do not work there, and neither do Apple Pay or Google Pay. Bring cash in dollars or euros to exchange at banks; up to the equivalent of USD 10,000 per person may be brought in without a customs declaration. We settle hotels, transfers, guides and reservations in advance, so you need only a little cash.
Are there mosques and places to pray?
Yes. Moscow has the Cathedral Mosque, reopened in 2015 with room for 10,000 worshippers; Saint Petersburg its Cathedral Mosque, opened in 1913 opposite the Peter and Paul Fortress; and Kazan the Kul Sharif Mosque inside the Kremlin, as well as the mosques of the Old Tatar Quarter. We note prayer times and the qibla in your daily plan, and arrange Friday prayer if it falls during your stay.
Will WhatsApp and my phone work in Russia?
At the time of writing, WhatsApp and several international apps are blocked in Russia, and mobile data is sometimes restricted by region. A foreign SIM also loses data and text messages for its first 24 hours on a Russian network, though voice calls still work. Hotel Wi-Fi is more reliable. So before you travel we agree with you how you will reach your guide and our team, and your driver and guide carry local phones.
How many nights, and does Russia suit children?
Seven nights suit two cities, such as Moscow and Saint Petersburg or Moscow and Kazan; ten allow a third city or time in Sochi. Families do well here: the fast train between cities, the Tsar Bell and Tsar Cannon in the Kremlin, the fountains of Peterhof and husky sleds in winter. We build the days around your children, with a private car, a patient guide and time to rest.
