Discover Orchard Road
Orchard Road takes its name from the nutmeg, pepper and fruit plantations it once led to. Today it runs for about 2.5 kilometres under shade trees, lined with the city's great malls and department stores: ION Orchard, Ngee Ann City with its Takashimaya, Paragon, and Tangs, the oldest name on the street.
ION Orchard opened in 2009 directly above Orchard MRT station, with more than 300 shops and restaurants, among them flagship stores of the international fashion houses. On its 55th and 56th floors, ION Sky looks over the city from 218 metres.
At the western end of the road, in Tanglin, are the Singapore Botanic Gardens, founded in 1859 and inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2015, the only tropical garden on the list. Inside are the National Orchid Garden and a patch of rainforest older than the city itself.
Orchard suits those who like to start the morning walking under trees and end the day in the shops. Four Seasons Hotel Singapore is close by. If you wish, we arrange a private shopping companion and a car waiting at each entrance.
