The Yi Peng and Loy Krathong festivals

One evening to three days
November (full moon)

On the full moon of the twelfth Thai lunar month, usually in November, Thailand celebrates Loy Krathong, setting small baskets of flowers and candles afloat on its rivers. In the north it coincides with Yi Peng, a three-day festival of light when thousands of lanterns rise over Chiang Mai.

The dates move each year with the moon. We confirm them and reserve the right places early, because the city's hotels fill for those nights.

Good to know

  • The date changes every year with the lunar calendar
