Diving the Similan Islands

Full day
December to April (park open 15 October to 15 May)

The Similan Islands, an archipelago in the Andaman Sea about 100 km from Phuket, became a national park in 1982. Their great granite boulders and clear bays, Donald Duck Bay among them, are among Thailand's best-known views, and the water offers some of its finest diving and snorkelling.

The park opens only from 15 October to 15 May. Speedboats leave Thap Lamu pier near Khao Lak early in the morning, and visitors must leave the islands by 4 pm. The best diving months are December to April.

Good to know

  • The park is closed from 16 May to 14 October
  • Daily visitor numbers are capped
  • Some dive sites have strong currents and suit experienced divers
