King Salman Mosque

King Salman Mosque, Malé

The mosque stands on the east side of Boduthakurufaanu Magu, near Malé's Artificial Beach. Saudi Arabia funded part of its construction, and it bears the name of King Salman. It opened for prayers in April 2022 and holds 10,000 worshippers, one of the largest mosques in the Indian Ocean.

The six-storey building has five minarets for the five pillars of Islam, and in place of a conventional dome a roof shaped like a Bedouin tent. It also holds a library, a lecture hall and classrooms for teaching the Quran.
