The Grand Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha
The Grand Palace (Wat Phra Kaew)
The Grand Palace was built in 1782 as the residence of the kings of Siam, later Thailand, and the seat of government: a complex of buildings at the heart of Bangkok on Na Phra Lan Road. In its outer court stands the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, whose small, sacred statue changes its robes three times a year, along with the library, the golden chedi and the Queen Sirikit Museum of Textiles.
It is open daily from 8.30 to 16.30, with tickets sold until 15.30, and modest dress covering shoulders and knees is required.
