The experience

Île aux Cerfs is a privately owned, uninhabited island off the east coast of Mauritius, ringed by sandbanks and clear, shallow water. Boats usually leave from the village of Trou d'Eau Douce; we arrange a private catamaran with its crew, so the day is yours alone.

You set off in the morning from your resort's jetty or from Trou d'Eau Douce. After an easy sail across the lagoon, the boat stops at the Grand River South East waterfall, where the river meets the sea between volcanic rocks. Then comes a snorkelling stop in clear water, and the crew prepares lunch on board, fully halal if you wish.

In the afternoon you anchor off the beaches of Île aux Cerfs to swim and rest in the shade. The island has a golf course for anyone tempted by a short round. On the way back you see the east coast from the water as the light softens.

The day suits couples and families alike: most of the lagoon is shallow, and the boat gives you privacy and shade. It is best on a calm day, so we watch the forecast and choose the date with you.
