Ang Thong Marine Park by private boat
Forty-two islands in the Gulf of Thailand and an emerald lake hidden inside one of them. A day by private boat from Koh Samui.
Koh Samui · Thailand
The experience
West of Koh Samui lies Mu Ko Ang Thong National Marine Park, an archipelago of 42 islands over some 102 square kilometres of land and sea, declared a national park in 1980.
Its finest moment is on Ko Mae Ko, where a steep stair of a few hundred steps climbs to a view over Thale Nai, an emerald saltwater lake joined to the sea by underwater caves. From the top of Ko Wua Talap, where the rangers have their station, the whole archipelago opens out before you.
By private boat you set out ahead of the tour boats, swim and kayak between the islands in quiet, stop at a beach you have almost to yourself, and take a halal lunch we prepare on board.
The best months are January to August, when the Gulf is calm. Between October and December trips may be cancelled for rough seas, and we confirm the conditions the evening before.
