An island of private pool villas on the beach and over the water, inside Baa Atoll's UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Swim with manta rays by day and dine beneath the ocean by night.
A mirage in Baa Atoll
Seen from the sea, Kihavah looks like a mirage: a ring of white sand and palms set in water that shades from turquoise to sapphire.
For centuries Arab traders bound for the Far East put in here. They found coconut, papaya and mango growing wild, and a reef left behind by an ancient volcano that had sunk into the sea, crowded with coral and lagoon fish.
When the resort was built, not a single tree was moved; you can see it in the villas, which are shaped around the trunks. The design borrows from those old seafarers, mixing Indian Ocean, Arabian and Portuguese influences with local materials.
The island lies in Baa Atoll, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, and it is made for barefoot days. You have your own pool villa on the sand or over the water. You can snorkel with manta rays and hawksbill turtles, lie out under the stars, and eat on an empty island or below the surface of the sea.
